Kinja'd!!!

Now that I have your attention, I'm looking for some info.

I recently came into posession of a radar detector-possibly a radar jammer as well. It's called a Snooper Shadow 360, made by Autotronics. It looks like it was made sometime in the early 1990's, and it came off of a motorcycle. I have searched extensively, and cannot find any information about the thing, not even about the company. The most I was able to find is that they made some early radar detectors in the 1970's.

I want to install it on my car, but I have no idea how to go about it.

Here's what it looks like.

So it's a remote hidden-mount unit, which is fantastc. This mounts on the dash or somewhere in the interior, and communicates with the computer. There are only 2 wires coming out of it, so I guess I just need to wire it to a fuse for power.

here's the back:

The main comuter looks like this:

So, this mounts in the radiator. there is another smaller strip, i'm guessing for the back of the car/bike:

These two units are connected and they terminate with these wires:

What do I connect these to? If the dash-mount and computer communicate wirelessly, then what's the deal with the 6 wires?

Have any of you performed a similar install? I believe the Beltronics Vector LR remote Model# 915-R is similar to this one, and of a similar era. It seems to be a pretty good unit, and I'd love to be able to hook it up. Help!

I have one of these. They date to the late 60's-early 70's. First one on the market, I believe. Got it at a garage sale. Cool.

Could be a laser jammer or detector, or radar detector. Radar jammers are illegal for sale in the US, due to FTC.

Fuzzbuster, I love it! Now you just need a period-correct muscle car to go along with it.

I think it's laser-capable, but I don't think it's included with what I have. You can see there's a "laser" socket in the dash-mount piece, but I have nothing to plug into it. These must have been legal in the 90's? I believe what I have is just a radar thing anyways. I don't know if it jams or not though. Aren't radar jammers only illegal in two states?

Detectors are illegal in two states (maybe more), but radar jammers broadcast on a radio frequency which falls under the jurisdiction of the FCC.

Hmm. In theory there should be a way to only have it function as a detector...

I got one new in 1978...when the Fuzzbuster was da bomb. Everything else was shit. And my Fuzzbuster earned me a $45 ticket in Virginia too...

The only thing worse than no radar detector is having a radar detector that doesn't work very well...been there, done that, been surprised by radar. Honestly you may be wasting your time on this. I don't recall Snooper detectors testing very good against the likes of the Escorts and Valentine Ones at that time.

And I can virtually guarantee you it's not wireless between the main antenna unit and the dash unit...that unit is probably too old for wireless.

I remember people having them in the mid to late 70's. Mine is in very good condition. A lot better than this example. Guess I'm not the only person who remembers the 70's on this site.

One of the few pieces of info I was able to find was a comparison test among 5 radar detectors, including this one, and it placed third, which is not bad. If it's not wireless I can't fathom how else it works, since there's only a black and red wire coming out of the dash unit. There's not input/outut wire of any

edit: there's the comparison: http://radar.757.org/MaxSpeed.htm

Buy a Valentine1 and rest assured that you can trust the information you receive from it.

Eh...I've done ok without a detector so far. This thing just fell into my lap and I thought it'd be fun to get it to work. It seems like it was a pretty high-end unit for its time, and a concealed one! I don't like the idea of having a detector on my windshield - it looks dumb, and if they do pull me over there'll be no mercy. And concealed units are expensive.

I just find it bizarre that there is zero information about this unit, or even the manufacturer.
